Avis Electric Company, Inc. was incorporated in 1983 with an official opening date of March 16, 1984.  The company specializes in commercial and industrial electrical installations and specialties in security and building automation systems wiring.  Avis Electric holds a Class A General Contractors license with specialties in Building and Electrical in the State of VA.  In the states of MD, SC, NC, WV, and the District of Columbia Avis holds a Class A Electrical Contractor License.

Avis Electric currently employs approximately 75 employees.

Our company is a safety-oriented that employees a full-time Safety Director.  One Hundred percent of our employees have completed OSHA 10 Safety training, CPR, as well as First Aid.  Project Managers, Foremans, and Superintendents have completed OSHA 30 training.  Employees exposed to hazardous electrical conditions have been trained on Arc Flash Protection.

Avis Electric has managed jobs from a general and electrical contractor’s standpoint on many different occasions.  Avis has completed projects with contracts valued up to $1.8 million.  Avis can accomplish this thru employing a variety of employees with different backgrounds in the construction industry.  Avis has been responsible for the electrical design and installation of different commercial and industrial jobs for the private sector as well as federal and state government.  Avis also has extensive knowledge in the low voltage market which includes but is not limited to PLC, fire alarm, security, fiber, Voice Data, and building automation systems.  Avis has worked in industrial facilities such as Honeywell, DuPont, Rock Quarries, Power Plants, Asphalt Plants, Shipping Centers such as Amazon and HP, Data Centers for Microsoft, BOA, Facebook, and Cap 1.  We have also worked on fast pace projects where detail to submittals, schedule, sub-coordination, rough-in and finish product is a must for the owner to occupy the space on time and with the product so desired.

In addition to electrical installations, Avis has been the General Contractor on various jobs.  These jobs have included coordination and supervision of concrete footing placement, steel erection, steel fabrication, door replacement, light general construction, electrified locking hardware, CCTV, Gate operators, Access control systems, generator installs.

Quality Control Program:
Avis Electric’s quality control program is what makes the company a success.  Parts of our program are job site meetings, licensed tradesmen that are competent employees in their field of work, apprenticeship program, and continuing education courses in the employee’s field.  Every job that Avis does has at least one Project Manager and Project Foreman appointed to the project.  This helps in preventing and reducing improper installations as well as the time in decision-making and communication with other contractors and the owner. 
On each job managed by Avis Electric there is a complete submittal package put together for all major material being used.  This allows Avis and the owner to review materials and equipment before the placement of any order.  Therefore, verifying the right material will be delivered to jobsite without delaying job progress.
Budgeting:
Job budgeting for electrical jobs is established thru a computer-based estimating software program.  This software has a database of 16,000 items that are updated to current market pricing every 30 days.  General construction budgets are achieved thru a written proposal from contractors involved in their specific fields.  This information is then collapsed into a proposal format broken out by significant trade and presented to the owner.  Budgeting can be prepared in a cost per item format if need be.

Design Build Experience:
Avis has designed and installed generators and automatic transfer switches for government complexes, office buildings, and communication towers. Avis Electric also has done design-build for manufacturing facilities, commercial retail space and office buildings, and industrial plants. Design-build projects for these customers have ranged from electrical installations for new buildings, renovations, and electrical upgrades.
Avis Electric also has had extensive experience in design-build for

  • Lighting Protection  

All these systems can be designed and placed into electronic format or plotted by Avis Electric.   Avis Electric uses two different computer software programs for the design and productions of drawings, Auto Cad and Microsoft Visio.  Avis has been a consultant, designer, and installer for critical infrastructure system.
Office Location and Number of Employees:
Avis Electric Inc. has two locations; one in the Mechanicsville, VA area and the other in McDowell, VA.
The Mechanicsville office has a full office staff including five estimators. Of the five estimators, three are project managers with 95 plus years’ experience between the three of them. This office also has two employees for accounting and one for clerical.  Currently this office employees 70 plus field employees, five of which are project managers.
The McDowell office has one project manager and four field employees. All paperwork for this office goes through the Mechanicsville office.
Avis Electric is licensed to do electrical work in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland. We have done work as far south as Myrtle Beach SC, north as Wilmington DE, east as Virginia Beach VA, and west as Huntington WV.
